Type-2 Diabetes is a huge problem in modern American society. The last two generations have seen a surge in adults diagnosed and suffering from the disease. This metabolic disorder impacts the lives of millions. Doctors and researchers are putting in countless hours to learn more about how to prevent Type-2 Diabetes and improve the lives of patients struggling through the condition.

Recent studies provide evidence that Testosterone may play a strong preventative role in the lives of men at risk of Diabetes. In addition, Testosterone Therapy may help men control their Diabetes more effectively and stave off some of its worst effects. Our hormones interact with one another in complex ways that make our bodies feel whole. When Hormone Balance falls into disarray, it increases the risk of all sorts of health malfunctions.

Testosterone Plays a Pivotal Role in Hormone Balance

Most people have a very simplified understanding of Testosterone. They understand that it's critical to good sex. They probably also understand that Testosterone promotes strength and muscle mass. People don't realize that Testosterone plays a role in cognitive function, psychological well-being, immune health, insulin sensitivity, and many other critical aspects of male well-being. Testosterone even plays a subsidiary part in women's health! It's really only in the last 10-20 years that we're doing a deep dive into the vastness of the benefits of Testosterone.

One of the areas where researchers are investing their time and energy is the relationship between Testosterone and Diabetes. Testosterone and blood sugar both travel through the same cardiovascular system, and there is an interplay between the two. Science shows that when blood sugar is high in the blood, Testosterone concentrations drop in response. Researchers have shown that Testosterone decreases in response to a sugar-heavy meal. Testosterone bounces back as sugar is transported and removed from the blood.

How Does Diabetes Deplete Testosterone?

But what happens when the body can't remove sugar fast enough? Type-2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body develops a resistance to insulin, preventing the body from efficiently transporting sugar. This causes blood sugar to increase dramatically, which has a whole host of negative health effects. Type-2 Diabetes creates conditions that also suppress Testosterone Levels, further disrupting Hormone Balance.

On the flip side, Testosterone normally acts as a bulwark countering Type-2 Diabetes. Men with healthy Testosterone Levels are less likely to get Diabetes, but men with Type-2 Diabetes are at double the risk of Low-T. Diabetes creates a chain reaction that further suppresses Testosterone and worsens the severity of Diabetes. This interaction is even worse for men that are significantly overweight or do not take proper steps to manage their Diabetes.

Diabetes, Testosterone Therapy, and Memory

One way to improve outcomes for patients with Type-2 Diabetes is to take steps to increase Testosterone Levels. While losing weight and getting more active can help bolster Testosterone (and are great for Diabetes!), many men will benefit greatly from Testosterone Therapy. This helps put a stop to the vicious cycle of Testosterone suppression and Insulin Resistance. Type-2 Diabetes is also associated with cognitive impairment and memory issues, highlighting the importance of getting blood sugar under control. One study conducted by Dr. Preethy Rao and a team from the University of Sheffield explores how Testosterone Therapy may help boost cognition in Diabetic patients.

This study involved 65 patients, all with mismanaged Type-2 Diabetes and Low-T. Rao and associates gave some of the men Testosterone Boosting Shots and delivered a placebo to the rest. This phase lasted three months, then all the men got to take Testosterone for another half-year.

After both phases of the study, the participants were thoroughly evaluated. There was a general consensus that treatment improved quality of life, sex drive, and sexual ability. Furthermore, the patients had improved scores on a Delayed Word Recall Test, a common test to screen for signs of dementia. This study provides strong evidence that Testosterone improves memory for men with uncontrolled Diabetes. Future research will build on this knowledge and help advance Testosterone Protocols for men with Diabetes!
